Default PokerDeals's Poker tip #1 Poker bankroll management

    Bankroll management

What is a bankroll (in poker) ?
Your bankroll represents the sum of money you have allocated for poker , it can be on any poker platform or fund transfer services . (Example : If you have $130 on Stars , $250 on Full Tilt and $220 on Neteller [Money you intend to use for poker] , your Bankroll is the total of these : $600)

This is the #1 tip that since it's the most important , even if you play the best poker mathematically you can have a bad luck streak and lose your entire bankroll . It's best if yo learn it from the start , when I started to play online , have been slowly winning up to $190 (running really good with freeroll money) which I managed to loose in less than 30 minutes due to bad bankroll management and tilt .

What limit can I afford to play ?
It depends on the game of your choice , since in limit the swings are not that significant ( if you run bad you don't loose the entire buyin compared to no limit ) , and tournaments and sng's are harder to win consistently , there are differences in the requirements for each limit .

    The recommended amounts are -
300 BB for limit games (*BB= Bigbets)
25 Buy-ins for no limit games
    40 buy-ins for sng tournaments
    90 buy-ins for mtt tournaments

If you wish to be even safer you should set a rules above these numbers . When you have the required amount for next higher limit you can move up , but for example on no-limit when you reach 25 buy-ins of the next lower limit for example you should change to that lower limit .
Respect these simple rules and don't play risky poker . Good luck at the tables .

    Glossary :
BigBet - The big bet is twice the small bet and is the exact same thing as a blind . The big bet is used in the later betting rounds . For example in a 1/2$ limit game , they open preflop with 0.5/1$ but at later rounds they bet 1/2 .
sng - The acronym SNG is used for Sit and Go, typically played as a freezeout tournament that usually is played on one single table.
mtt - MTT is a simple acronym for 'multi-table tournament' as opposed to 'single table tournament
