I have been betting on the major European premier League competitions
English, Scottish, Portugese, Spanish, Italy, Turkish, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Denmark.

Off season, I have a go at the irish and iceland.
The Northern European Summer aligns up with our Southern Winter Football such as Rugby league, Rugby Union and AFL Ozzie Rules.

When Rugby Union went professional more than 10 years back. The Australian, New Zealand and South Africa created a provincial competition. Super 15 Competition

Initally, Australia only had two States that played Rugby Union (New South Wales and Queensland) over a period of years as this competition expanded, they have created 3 additional franchise clubs ACT (Canberra) Brumbies, Perth's Western Force and more recently Melbourne.

Drawing most of the players from just Queensland and New South Wales.

NRL (national Rugby league) like Rugby Union, Rugby League as a football code is only doninate in Queensland and New South Wales. Up until the early 1980's, the best Queensland players use to get recruited by the more wealthy (feed by big poker machines cash flow from the rich Sydney League Clubs) and in the following year. Would then represent N.S.W in the inter-state representative matchs.

New South Wales, year on year use to all way win. Then in the early 1980's, the national Rugby League governing body introduced the "State of origin", from then on you could only play for the state where you play your first "First Grade" football team regristration.

As if by margic, Queensland won the first 5 years (3 matches a year), then over time New South Wales (N.S.W.) caught up.
However! over the last 6 years Queensland has dominated.

The people from South of the Border (State border) are not the best of Loosers. They are like real sooks (cry babies).

The A-League, the national Soccer competition, has gone broke on at least 3 previous occasions. Which required the Federal Government to rescue the Australian Football federation.

The last time, they (federal government) reconstructed the national association as an independent body and constructed the national teams as an initial 7 team competition.

With 4 new team over the last 2 years. One of which lasted 1 year before going broke. There is not the community support for Soccer like you would have it in either Europe, Asia or the Americas. Because of the dominance of the other football codes.

Rugby league and Union in Queensland and New South Wales.
The AFL (Ozzie Rules) in the other 4 States and Territories.

So as to survive, the A-League is a Summer Sport (down under).
