Allianz Swans Gmunden - Crvena Zvezda Belgrade,Eurocup,20:30h

This is the last round before the group stage.

Zvezda has a completely new team, just four players from the last season: Dragicevic,Kovac,Kikanovic and Bakic. The club got the new management who has invested a lot.New signings are:ex national youngsters Keselj and Stimac who brought a bounch gold medals in their level,Americans Owens(from NBA Indiana) and Roberts(from Olympiakos),then Marinovic(from Girona),Milosevic,Sepa and some youngsters who joined. The bigest signing for sure is one of the best European trainers,Svetislav Pesic.
Zvezda started the season over the expectations, with five straight wins in the Adriatic League. Then at Saturday had a disaster against big rivals Cibona in Zagreb, loosing 86:63.The stake tonight is European competition and i expect positive reaction from the players.

What can i say about the hosts. They're unknown team for the domain public. In the previous round Gmunden eliminated Estonian Tartu Rok,demolishing them with 20 difference at home. They haven't player taller than 205 cm,forse the play with lots of runing, shoots and solo action.Best players are three Americans:Fisher,Mayes and Colwell.

I don't think Austrians can play on our(Zvezda's) level.Odd for away win is small 1.3 and the bookies gave 6,5 handicap.Underestimating is the bigest danger in games such this.My prediction is clear away win and a handicap for gamble.

I've stuck myself in teams info and have no clue about the rest of the games.Too many unknown teams. So previous post will be the only pick for today.

Svetislav Pesic:It seems we Serbs are not ready to respect Austrian basketball. After Gmunden hit 3 points shoot for a draw 82:82!
Nice one,Ledi.I'm expecting your next posts.

Nancy(+13) - Panathinaikos Athen

Nancy started their debut in Euroleague with two defeats:against Barcelona at home 82:54 and Prokom away 91:62.Defeat in Poland was against direct opponent for a place number four,as Pao,Barca and Montepaschi will take the first three place. The best player is center Cyril Julian who expected a battle against Panathinaikos’s front court aces Mike Batiste, Nikola Pekovic and Antonis Fotsis.

Pao has ( i dare to say) NBA quality team. But,Greens are coming off their worst Euroleague loss in over five years. Panathinaikos fell 90-66 last week against Regal FC Barcelona and their highly motivated killer Navarro.Lads reacted very well and beat in domain competition another Euroleague team Panionios, away.Nobody thinks about loose in France.

My personal opinion is Nancy simply don't have enough quality for this level. One center and American guards are not enough, especially to face one of the strongest team in Europe. On the other hand,i saw Pao's coach shooting the chairs while his team leads against Zalgiris with 25 difference!Tonight he'll demand blood on the pitch as an answer on humiliation.Away handicap win.

Partizan Belgrade - Armani Jeans Milano +9

Partizan has almost completely new team, but started much over the all expectations making the bigest sensation and won Real Madrid last thursday 81:77.Before that they lost against Efes Pilsen 61:60.Some calculations say they need just three wins for the next round, but better score with the direct rivals(Armani, for example).Six thousands fans will try to help them with that.

Italians started with two defeats:in Moscow, against one of the favorites(and defending champion),CSKA 90:64 and at home against Efes Pilsen 81:71.With Italian league, five in a row.In the next round they'll travel to Madrid and surely want to avoid 0-4 score.Three best players have injury problems.Big man Pape Sow is out with a foot problem, while guard Massimo Bulleri and Luca Vitali have recovered from their respective injuries, but are not yet in gameshape.

Partizan showed last week, as well as last season when the club went 8-3 at home, that it is always favored at Pionir. If they'll open the game concentrate with the wind in the back from the crowd,it can be win with a very big difference at the end.Italians stated for domain press that Partizan is very good and talented team, they respect atmosphere in Pionir, basketball nation and such things. The true is this is a "to be,or not to be" game for them. Not to be,i think.Home handicap win.

Just one handicap win from six games, last night.
I'm not sure does Cibona-Olympiakos worth of bet.I fancy Greek and their chances to win,but again, odd is small 1,30 and the handicap is too high +7,5. Maybe,i'll write a short preview, later.

Unicaja - Cibona(+8,5)

Unicaja started this competition with a home win against Le Man 84-79,and two away defeats,vs Olympiakos 83-72 and suprisingly at Avellino 72-70.In front of its fans at Martin Carpena Arena, they has won 19 consecutive Euroleague games dating back to December 2006.Still battling injuries, as Berni Rodriguez, Alfonso Sanchez and German Gabriel are still sidelined while center Boniface Ndong did not practice on Tuesday and is doubtful for the game against Cibona.

Cibona is off to its best start in over a decade and they're the Group A leader at 3-0.Wins against Maccabi(home 81-79),Le Man (away 58-54) and sensationaly game vs Olympiakos (home 85-76).One of the best players, center Prkacin is doubtful(as and Vukusic). My opinion is their best quality is young coach Perasovic who tacticaly outclassed Giannakis in the previous game.

Last time Unicaja beat Cibona with nearly 50 difference.Tonight is very important game for the hosts after two-game losing streak (in Euroleague same in domestic competition). They'll be highly motivated and with the very noisy crowd and possible help from referees,i expect nothing less than home win with more than 9 points difference.

Olympiakos - Maccabi (+10.5)

One of the most expensive European teams, have a 2-1 record with wins against Avellino(away 83-69),Unicaja (home 83-72) and a shocking defeat in Zagreb against Cibona (85-76).They played five times at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Athen, with four home wins.No injured players for tonight.

Maccabi started with defeat vs Cibona (away 81-79) and two home wins Avellino(90-83),Le Man(82-80).Maccabi has also retooled and like every season, has its eyes on the Final Four. Two of Maccabi’s biggest stars in recent years, center Nikola Vujcic and guard Yotam Halperin now play for the Reds.

It will be a very interesting game, for sure.Quality is definitely on home side, but with a number of new players they need time to become a entity.Full crowd and old rival are a nice opportunity for a little strengh demonstration. Home win and handicap only as a gamble.

No problem, mate.I was absent all day, didn't even see the list of games.Interesting pick.My yesterday's was wrong,Lengdon miss three point shoot in the last second of the first half and ht finished with four difference for CSKA.
Btw.do you have an impression the favorites are overrated in Euroleague, this season?Too big handicaps.I never bet against the favorites, but look at the past results.I guess 80% of the results are wins with difference less then handicap.Or i imagine all.

Eurocup, Crvena Zvezda - Brose Baskets(+11,5)

This is a second round of Eurocup.Zvezda started this season in Adriatic League suprisingly good with 8-2,even won agains Partizan Belgrade after seven defeats in a row. Then lost in the first round of Eurocup against Charleroi 71-65 and in Adriatic against Hemofarm 84-65.Home coach,Svetislav Pesic said that we won't underestimate the opponent for sure,'cause we don't have any reason for that!I accept this only as a way of motivating the players. One of the best players,Tadija Dragicevic, probably won't play because the injury.

On the other hand,Brose was humiliated in the first round, against Turow at home 39-69!Team was shooting 33% for two and all 0-10 for three!Anyway,i'm sure that game doesn't reflect their strength correctly,we'll see in the next few weeks how much they can.

This is an European premiere at home ground and nice opportunity for a win after two defeats.Expect nothing less than a home win with twelve or more difference.

Just two short previews, while i'm waiting the teams info for CGG update.Adriatic League.
Crvena Zvezda Beograd - KK Zadar+7

In the previous round,Zvezda had a nightmare against Hemofarm 65-84.Then won in Eurocup against Bamberg with 17 difference.Third place on the table with 8 wins and 2 defeats.Considering players quality(and coach quality,of course),Zvezda is one of the main favorites for final-four(beside:Partizan,Hemofarm and Cibona).

Zadar maybe is not a main favorite for that, but they'll be a hosts for final-four!It usually means that they will qualified for that.Decent team, with very good coach.Tonight, they'll face a very unfriendly crowd in Beograd.

Zvezda's win tonight is a clear logic for me,can't imagine the oposite.Clear win is paid about 1.45 and it is a very good odd.I will think about handicap later and decide about the bet.

Union Olimpija - Hemofarm Vrsac+3

Olimpija started this competition very badly.Just four wins with six defeats. At thursday, they were humiliated from Juventut at home.It is a big question how much players will be recovered(physicaly and mentaly).Beside that, coach Aleksandar Dzikic has been sacked.

Hemofarm has a budget much higher from Zvezda and Partizan. They have spent it on very good players and that produces the results.Second place on the table,8 wins,2 defeats.Zvezda was completely killed in the last round in Vrsac.

Very difficult situation for Olimpija. And they have to host one of the best teams which is full of confidence.Olimpija is not a favorite, tonight.Hemofarm will not loose with more than two difference(for 1.85),and i expect them to win (for about 2.00).

I'm fine Ledi, thanks.Ok,i'll write my thoughts.

Milano is on the bottom of the table with two wins and five defeats. They desperately need a win to stay in race for the next round. After this game they'll host Real Madrid and go to Greece (Panionios).Pressure is a bad thing and the pressure at home ground is always worse.

Partizan lost another won game.In Madrid they were better side, leading all game, but one ball turn the luck on home side.68-67 for Real at the end.Uros Tripkovic, guard, hits 6 from 8 for three points. All team, despite a defeat, got another ammount of self-confidence.They need just one more win for the next round. After this game they'll host Panionios and go in Moscow to face CSKA.So,this is not the last chance for them. They're in position to keep future in own hands.

This will be a tough game for sure.Partizan lost many games in undecided finishes(hmmm, maybe a half-time lead is a good pick, too).I feel they will be repaid for all those defeats. My pick stays.

dule_rsfc
12-18-2008, 03:27 PM
Ledi was right(again). The visitors had the worst performance this season, they're angry on referees, whatever.I paid for my mistake.Fortunately,Siena made the things better.
Another six games, tonight.I'll write my opinion, would like to hear others.

dule_rsfc
12-18-2008, 04:27 PM
Le Mans+4.5 - Maccabi h2

Le Mans is on the bottom with 7 defeats and without a win.First five games they were loosing with five or less difference(extra-times against Olympiakos at home and Maccabi away) and in last two 70-89(Cibona away) and 55-87 (Unicaja home). The bigest problem for home coach is how to motivate players.

On the other side,Maccabi is theoretically in the next round, but they'll fight for better group positon(maybe number one).Forth place in the group, but just one win less than the first three teams.Pini Gershon is back and they look in much better shape.Bigest problem for them will be center D’or Fischer, who is sidelined with a broken finger.

Clear away win is about 1.45.Handicap +4,5 looks like acceptable risk.Away handicap win.

12-18-2008, 04:42 PM
Unicaja Malaga - Air Avellino+13

Home side is not definitely in the next round, they need to win tonight.Unicaja has its full roster available apart from power forward German Gabriel, who is close to be back with the team but not expected to play this week.

For the visitors it will be to be-or not to be game.Avellino (2-5) will run out of chances to qualify if it loses in Malaga. They'll try to fight all 40 minutes and somehow surprise the hosts.

Unicaja is a heavy favorite tonight.Additional motive is a loose in the first game (70-72).It is a time for revenge.Local bookies offer nice handicap and i'll take it.Home handicap win.

Barca-Tau 3.5

Another poor football offer forced me to try my luck in other sport. This is the only game about what I have any opinion. So, this is the second match, also will be played in Barcelona. Then two in Vitoria and maybe fifth in Barcelona. Three wins are needed for final-four in Berlin 01.05.-03.05.(I'm wondering why there). First game at Palau Blaugrana Tau (un)surprisingly won 84-75. I watched the second half that hosts performed too nervous, simply didn't have the clue. Navarro scored 17 points, while Ersan Ilyasova added 14 points and 12 boards.

Tau played very aggressive with fast transition and many easy points. The whole game their win wasn't in doubt. Argentinean Pablo Prigioni stepped up for Tau with 5 triples, 17 points in total. He also handed out 8 assists beside that. Igor Rakocevic scored 15 and William McDonald followed with 12. Visitors have the chance to be just a win away to make it to its fifth(!) straight final four.

I don't believe Barca will loose two tight games on home court. In the group stage they made maybe the strongest impression from all teams. Navarro is highly motivated killer and 17 points is just very bad day, expect from him to wake up and to win tonight's game (c'mon mate!). Another reason for Barca is visitors best player Igor Rakocevic(18.4 points per game, 1 three-pointer away, very often MVP of the round). I remember him from days when he was playing for Crvena Zvezda. He became a much better player since then (of course), but one thing stays the same. Against the outsiders he hits 50 points like a big star, but in the bigest games he doesn't have his day and usually buries his side (something like Riquelme in football). It is a question of mentality and it doesn't change. My bets (small stakes, of course) are: home handicap win (han. is 3.5 at 888 (http://www.888sport.com/bet?lang=en&sr=344304&flag=0000)), Barca will pass to final four and Barca will the champion (he-he).
