The "Big League" is upon us once again. My favorite part of the CHL season. IMO these group stages are much more interesting then when the chl reaches the quarter finals and finals :)
Well, I guess you all know how this goes, in the chl there are no favorites! Any team can beat any team. Hence the name champions league. Hopefully we'll see a lot of good strong matches and hopefully some nice upsets! Of course, there are those teams that "should win" but, like i said, anything can happen. If you're going to combine bets (combos etc..) try to avoid having more than 2 "Big teams" in the same combo. 100% someone's going to mess up! :) Question is who!? Anyway.... here's how i see it for this opening week

Marseille Beşiktaş

The contrast : Marseille sits at 15th position in the French league with only 1 win at hand. Besiktas is 2nd in the Turkish league without a loss in 5 games. Even so, Marseille have scored more goals. There's a big difference in these two leagues and thats what makes it hard to figure out, whether Marseille is in bad form or Besiktas has it easier in their league. Not to underestimate the Turkish league but, obviously more quality teams in France.

My money will be on Marseille here, and this is why : Marseille have seen and played the CHL and Uefa cup many a times before and comparing players, a clear advantage on the French side as experience is concerned.
Home soil. The Olympic stadium has known to be loud and very suportive of their team.
Both teams come in motivated to win. My thoughts are Marseille are pumped up a bit more due to the fact that they lie 15th in their league, and with this match they can start from 0 and put them selves on the front page of the french news again!

Prediction : 2 - 0 @ 1.85
: Marseille to keep a clean sheet @ 2.20

FC Porto Liverpool FC

A very tough match. Both teams in very good form winning games on all cylinders! Liverpool are coming in from a scoreless draw away to Portsmouth. This doesn't come as a surprise due to 2-3 key players not playing and Liverpool took it easy knowing they have this game tomorrow night. Basically, that's how most big teams played this weekend as you all saw.
Porto knows what it has to do here. They met twice already in 01/02 and in 2004. Not once has Liverpool beaten Porto at home. 1 draw and 1 loss. All three matches finished with a low scoring mark. Maybe this is what we're going to see again tomorrow. Can Porto make the first scalp?! I can't bet on it.. Can Liverpool start the campaign with an away win!? Not an easy task...
I'm just not convinced Liverpool can steal all 3 points in Portugal..

Prediction : Draw @ 3.20
If some of you are 100% sure that Liverpool will win but still can't bet your life on it, choose : Draw no bet-Liverpool @ 1.55
This way if i'm right, you'll get your money back

Chelsea FC Rosenborg

Maybe the only "Should win" match on Tuesday. We all know Chelasea, so no need to dwell on that. Rosenborg are not what they used to be. Once allways making it into the CHL, now barely making it. They're not even dominating the Norweigan league like they did once. They are here, so that must count for something I guess but, not the quality that would give me doubts about this game.

Prediction : 2:0 @ 1.12

Clearly the odds are way too low so, a HT/FT should be worth it or, AH-1 Chelsea.

Schalke Valencia

Look at this stats : Last three games for Schalke finished in draws , all finishing with the same result, 1:1. Valencia finished their last 3 games all three wins and all three finished 2:1 in their favor! So what does one conlude from all this!?...well, nothing! if you ask me. I see another draw here but with doubts of course. Both teams aren't dominating in their leagues as we expected them to do so. But both teams show big strength on the long run. The Valencia side have players scoring from all positions which is what i like in teams. Maybe we should give Valencia a handicap advantage or play X2 just because of the big big big experience this team has in European cups! odds @ 1.50 not bad...

Prediction : 1:1 @ 3.20
X2 @ 1.50

Real Madrid Werder Bremen

Can Real reach Moscow next year!? We'll see. In their way first up is the, how should i put it.... Unpredictable Werder Bremen. This team can beat anyone, and yet they lose to almost anyone! Real has had a big makeover. No more movie stars in the team. Real is finally looking like a "TEAM"! I'm very delighted to see W.Sneider fitting in well also. 2 games, 3 goals. Impressive start for him. Also, Saviola is finding the back of the net. Another "Should win" game, in Reals' favor obviously, but the odds are too low. @ 1.36 opening games are not my likings. We should see some scoring here, so my choice is on the goal line.

Prediction : 3:1 @ 1.36
Over @ 1.70

Olympiakos Lazio

Two teams in this group that will give points easily and take away points from teams that dearly need them! The Greeks are a loud team to beat at home. Both teams have some new players in and play descent, team wise. This year Olymp will be looking to finally make it past the first stage. The Italians are looking to get away with at least a point here and I think they might do just that and maybe a bit more. Lazio just edges Olympiacos in my view. But, better play it safe.

Prediction : 0:1 @ 2.85
: X2 @ 1.50
